Wood Floor Chicken Vandal Man Convicted

An American man is facing as much as 18 years in prison after being convicted of vandalizing the home of his ex-wife and causing thousands in damages by putting raw chicken in her house’s air vents and using cheated hiking boots to tear up her wooden floors, resulting in the need for some very expensive wood floor restoration.

The 58-year-old Denver resident, Ronald Smith, a lobbyist, tried to claim that Michelle Young, his ex-wife, actually did the damage herself and then tried to pin the blame on him, but the jury was unimpressed with his version of events and after a six-hour deliberation found him guilty of criminal mischief and second degree burglary.

The case is just the latest example of wooden floors being treated badly during a nasty divorce. In 2009, contractor Matt Morgan was asked to install what he thought was the “ugliest floor” he had ever come across – a white oak, red oak and walnut floor – only for a woman he had never seen before to arrive just as installation was being completed and demanded to know what he thought he was doing to HER house. “I said, “EXCUSE ME?!” Morgan remembers.

Wood floor restoration can involve everything from floor sanding, lacquering, sealing, oiling and staining and is a specialist task that needs to be carried out by qualified professionals. It can be as relatively simple as removing small scratches from floors to a complex and complete overhaul of the existing floor.

Repairing Parquet Floors

Parquet wood floors can be very beautiful, but if blocks are damaged then it can become a serious problem. In order to carry out wood floor repairs on your damaged parquet floor without it being obvious to the naked eye, the damaged areas of wood need to be replaced with a parquet tile that matches the original pattern.

If it proves not to be possible to find a refinished parquet tile that is the same as the original, simply finish the tile yourself instead, in order to ensure the pattern is the same as the piece you are replacing it with.

If necessary use the whole tile, but if possible just use one piece of the unit or as much as is necessary – it is always best to make the area you are replacing as small as possible.

To begin the process, first remove the damaged piece of parquet floor sanding. If the whole unit or tile is damaged, make a row of big holes across the entire length of the block with a bit, brace or drill, and make sure to go against the grain. Drill the whole way through the damaged block but be careful to make sure the drill does not go into the sub floor underneath it.

Then use a hammer and a sharp chisel to gently split up the block and get up the individual pieces, being careful to avoid damaging the other pieces of parquet wood around it. Make sure the gap is ready for a replacement and use either one piece or the whole tile to fill it in.

Hardwood Flooring Tips

Even before a consumer purchases their hardwood flooring, there are a few tips that they should be made aware of before they do so in order to ensure they end up being completely satisfied.

One such tip is to acknowledge and seriously consider the fact that floors that are bought already refinished can be very, very convenient.

Being forced to leave your own home for days on end because you have a contractor staining, re-coating and sanding floorboards in your house is not a lot of fun. Then there is the fact that while some professional companies may leave your home spotless after they have finished, others may leave it covered in dust.

In today’s world, none of this is necessary with factory finished flooring that can be immediately installed and used with no fuss and a bare minimum of mess. restoring parquet flooring also means that every plank can move on its own to account for any changes in humidity in your house, which makes seasonal separations (otherwise known as cracks) in the floor far less noticeable.

Another tip worth paying attention to is that while coloured wood flooring can be stylish and even cool, there is little to beat the natural look of wooden flooring.

It is also worth remembering that not all wooden floors are or should be smooth. Texture is very popular these days, with hand scraped, reclaimed and even distressed wooden flooring having a classic look that also hides wear and scratches and has become a very popular trend.

Why Floor Sanding is Essential for Wooden Floors

Wooden flooring has many benefits, most of which are well known to the great majority of consumers including just the atmosphere that such flooring brings to a home, being immediately comfortable, inviting and warm. One of the disadvantages of wood flooring, however, is that it requires a regular maintenance routine in order to prevent greater damage from being done over the course of time.

Floor sanding helps to protect wooden floors and given that most people regard a quality wooden floor as an investment, it makes a great deal of sense not to skimp on the maintenance of that investment. In order for wooden floors to maintain their quality appearance and scratch free condition, then floor sanding is an essential part of that maintenance routine.

Floor sanding can also help in situations where an owner – or previous owner – of a wooden floor has previously failed to keep up such a regular routine of maintenance by helping it to regain some of its former lustre and shine. Likewise, any wooden floors that have started to lose that shine and have become somewhat dull in appearance can be either restored or even helped toward a new look altogether with floor sanding.
Floor sanding can also end up saving the consumer money in the long term, with it being able to prevent problems such as loose nails and planks from getting any more serious than they already are, although it is recommended that the majority of consumers should seek help from qualified professionals rather than attempt to do it themselves.

Wood Flooring Helps Create Spacious Atmosphere

The right kind of solid wood flooring can help to create the illusion of a more spacious atmosphere in a room, according to the experts. Rooms can look a lot larger than they might really be just with the implementation of a few simple design tricks and the correct choice of flooring can be a key part of that.

As well as advice on the savvy use of mirrors and cunning solutions for storage problems in order to prevent areas from looking cluttered, flooring also ranks very highly indeed for the impact that it can have on the perception of the size of a room.

Light-coloured flooring is recommended as being one of the best possible ways to create the illusion of spaciousness in an area as it tends to brighten the room as a whole and thus gives the impression of natural light. Clearly, the lighter the flooring option chosen, the larger the room will appear to be and that is one reason why white solid wood flooring is a very highly recommended choice, with anyone who is currently refinishing wood floors in a small room being advised to then paint the floor white.

Customers are also being advised that another good idea to maximize space in a room is to go for plain flooring, as patterned floorings also tend to create the perception of clutter.

The best option for small rooms, therefore, would appear to be a light solid wood flooring choice that only has very subtle grain markings.

Cardiff Hauler Wins Wooden Floor Delivery Contract

Cardiff based hauling contractor Rhys Davies Freight Logistics has won the contract to deliver flooring-related products, such as floor sanding products, to the customers of Kenton Floors all over the United Kingdom. Under the specifications of the agreement, Rhys Davies Freight Logistics will pick up wooden flooring from the Caerphilly factory belonging to Kenton Floors every day in order to ensure next day deliveries to carpet suppliers, professional flooring installers and retailers. The agreement is on a rolling basis, according to Rhys Davies Freight Logistics.

“Our boxes are two metres long which equates to about one and a half pallets,” says the warehouse manager for Kenton Floors, Jonathan Evans. “Other carriers we spoke to calculate their charges on a two pallet basis, so we would have been paying for space we weren’t using. Rhys Davies only charges us for the space we use, which offers us a saving.” Evans also points out that the company also often finds it necessary to send loose items along with the pallets, something that an ordinary pallet network would find difficult to take into account. “These can be up to three metres long and because they’re carried off the pallet they can easily get lost.”

Evans notes that Rhys Davies Freight Logistics has a more flexible system, which means that they are much better equipped to handle this scenario and thus ensure that all goods sent will actually arrive at their destination safely and in good order.

How to Stop Termites Destroying Hardwood Floors

Floor RestorationAnyone who has either recently laid any kind of hardwood flooring, including solid oak, or has had it in their home for a while now needs to be aware of keeping a constant eye out for termites. Termites feed on wood and their presence can also result in serious health problems for human beings. With more than 3,000 different kinds of termites, all of which can cause major damage to not just wooden floors – resulting in a need for expensive wooden floor restoration or even replacement – but also furniture and fittings and possibly even the structure of the house itself, it is important to keep a watchful eye for any signs of the little critters.

Unfortunately, once seen, termites can be extremely difficult to get rid of and it is best to take preventative measures to try and avoid an infestation in the first place. Materials such as concrete and steel are impossible for termites to eat their way through and experts advise that any piles of wood outside the home should be kept well away from the house itself.

Experts also recommend that standing water should also be kept as far away from the house as possible in order to keep the soil nearest the house dry and thus less appealing to termites. Lastly, plastic or some other suitable material should be used to ensure that the foundations of your house and any cracks that may appear are properly sealed off to prevent termites chewing their way in from outside.

The Meaning of Solid Wood Flooring

Wood Floor RepairsSome people may be confused by the term “solid wood flooring” and wonder what the difference is between that and other forms of wooden flooring. Simply put, solid wood flooring is a term that is used in order to differentiate between regular lumber and engineered flooring, solid wood being the former.

In general, the great majority of people tend to consider solid wood flooring to be considerably more attractive then engineered wood, of which fibreboard is just one such example, although the appearance of the latter can often be improved by the addition of a solid wood veneer.

Solid wood flooring is, however, much more expensive than engineered flooring and is also often not considered to be as environmentally friendly. If solid wood flooring is the option consumers want to go for while still wishing to be conscious of the environment, then it is very important to make sure that the solid wood flooring has been taken from a sustainable forest. This means that it comes from a forest that is managed with reseeding and limited yearly deforestation so that the environment will continue to be sustainable over a long period of time. Many types of wood are produced in such sustainable forests and are available in literally hundreds of different styles and shades. Solid wood floors are also considered to be particularly durable in nature, meaning that it will be many years before owners have to invest in wood floor repairs.

Wood is the Perfect Choice for Flooring

One question that is asked by many homeowners is how they can go about changing the feel of a room. Most experts agree that the most important feature of a room when it comes to setting a particular feel is the flooring.

An attractive floor sets the stage for an attractive room, and while an ordinary room can be made to feel amazing with some beautiful decor, likewise cheap flooring can easily completely ruin the feel of what would otherwise be a good-looking room.

The best form of flooring, in the opinion of many interior designers, is wooden floors. There is little that can really compete with the inherent natural beauty and immense character that is a characteristic of a wood floor, regardless of whichever style – classic, contemporary or traditional – the homeowner is aiming to achieve.

All species of wood brings with them their own beauty with a natural design that is unlike anything else. Floor Sanding and Finishing With unique grain patterns, individual flaws and distinct colour characteristics, wood flooring is guaranteed to bring some character to the home.
The type of wooden floor chosen is up to the individual, though in heavily trafficked areas of the home experts advise that hardwoods that can withstand a lot of abuse without gouging or denting is the best choice.

Wood floors should be professionally installed and tended to by a professional floor sanding company in order to ensure that it fits and looks perfect in the home.

Why Wooden Floors Cup

Dry cupping is the term given to the advent of dips and divots in wood, and it can make a formerly beautiful wooden floor look like a wagon worn trail, which it seems no amount of wood floor restoration will be able to put right. Even if cupping does not have quite such an aesthetically catastrophic effect, however, mild cupping can still make the installation of new hardwood floors extremely difficult, particularly if working with feature strips and borders.

The cell walls in wood are made up primarily from cellulose, a very strong substance that water molecules tend to cling to. When the humidity of or around the wood increases, the moisture in the air results in a lot of water/cellulose bonding and this is what causes swelling, which ends up with the wood expanding.

Cupping is the flipside of this, which happens when the moisture level of the wood actually decreases. Generally speaking, the solid wood itself does not actually shrink, however, but the layered construction of engineered wooden flooring. Engineered hardwood flooring tends to consist of a thin strip of sawn, solid wood that is glued to the top of a piece of plywood. When cupping occurs, the plywood itself is a lot more stable in terms of the effect moisture has on it, and remains relatively unchanged but the top layer effectively shrinks, ultimately curling or even peeling away. This tends to affect wooden floors that are shipped from one climate to another that has significantly lower humidity levels.

The Importance of Floor Sanding

It is the responsibility of every homeowner to maintain the good condition of their houses through upkeep and restoration, and that includes wooden flooring. Wood flooring is widely regarded as one of the best choices of flooring for any home because of the comfortable, inviting and warm atmosphere that it brings to a house.

Wooden flooring can require regular maintenance in order to keep them in the best possible condition.

This is why wooden floor sanding and sealing is so important and necessary. There are many reasons to keep up with the regular sanding and sealing of wooden floors, including the fact that they protect the floor and ensure that what the great majority of people see as an investment remains a valuable one.

The investment that wood floors represent does not want to be compromised by any poor quality choices in any department. Floor Sanding and Varnishing and Sanding and sealing are absolutely essential in terms of keeping wooden floors in good condition and free from unsightly scratches.

A protective layer also stops water from being able to soak into the floors and prevents later issues that would arise if it did, such as moulds and mildew.

For those who have previously failed to maintain a regular maintenance schedule, floor sanding and floor sanding st albans can be a way to get back some of the wooden floor’s former luster and shine.
